Fredericksburg, Texas

Founded in 1846 by German immigrants in the Texas Hill Country, and the community where August and Theodor Schild both appear in the historical record.

Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 as a German settlement in the Texas Hill Country. By 1860, the census for the town recorded both August Schild, a merchant, and Theodor Schild, a farmer — both born in Saxony and listed immediately adjacent to one another. August Schild went on to serve as the town’s postmaster in 1868 and 1869.
