Wider Schild Story

This entry describes the wider place, and is not evidence of a direct family connection. See the research question on Rolf Schild’s story.

Cologne, on the Rhine in western Germany, is the birthplace of Rolf Schild, born there in 1924 to a Jewish textile merchant. In the late 1930s he attended the Jawne Gymnasium, a Jewish school in the city, before leaving for England on the Kindertransport in 1939. His parents remained in Cologne and were later murdered by the Nazis at the Chełmno extermination camp in 1942.
