Max Schild was a son of Urs Schild. After his father died in 1888, Max took the lead in running the family business and pushed for an ambitious plan to modernize its production methods.

The plan met resistance from workers and from the established watchmaking trade, and Max left the company in 1898. His brother Theodor took charge the following year. No authenticated portrait of Max Schild has been located for this archive, so this page uses a plain initials portrait rather than an invented image.
